The Fragrance of Stopping

“Life is available only in the present moment.”

Thich Nhat Hanh

I used to dislike these words. It took me half a lifetime to see they were true.

Stop chasing the future – it’s a ghost that was never real. The harder you strive to become someone, the further you drift from yourself, and the more you turn away from the quiet beauty of now.

So stop. Step out of the frantic race for titles, money and approval. When the striving ends, the tension dissolves. In the moment you are no one – neither a success nor a failure – you are the whole universe. Being nobody leaves you room to become anybody, and to savor every shape life can take.

Happiness isn’t the prize at the end of the road. It’s the fragrance of stopping.

A flower doesn’t try to bloom – it simply blooms. Neither do you need to “do” anything to be happy; you only need to “be”. Drop the masks, let your mind settle like a still lake, and you’ll find that happiness doesn’t come from what you achieve, but from the freedom of having nothing left to prove.

This is what it means to be at ease: stop trying to be perfect, and start enjoying your own vivid, imperfect self – right now.

Ahaalife – A life worth living.
