Touching the dream

Next door to me in a normal countryside village lived a younger cousin of mine. From an early age, he carried a passion that was anything but normal. While his peers were absorbed in ordinary games and entertainment, he would bury himself in tattered, old car magazines. He created a world of his own, one where he memorized every structural detail from hardware to software, knowing the strengths of every German, Japanese, and American car line like the back of his hand.

His humble background did not limit his vision. His goal was crystal clear: study automotive engineering, and it had to be in Germany—the global pinnacle of the industry. However, life does not always go as planned. After university, the German scholarship had yet to come, but the door to Australia opened instead. He shrugged it off: “I’ll go for the experience.”

In Australia, he not only worked hard but quickly earned trust. The restaurant owner handed the entire management over to him and offered him a long-term stay. The owner was ready to handle all visa procedures, creating the perfect conditions for him to settle down and build a stable career there. It was an opportunity most people could only dream of—a good job, a comfortable life, and a clear future.

Yet, deep inside him, the fire for German cars still smoldered, burning more fiercely than ever. To the astonishment of his boss and everyone else, he sincerely thanked them for their kindness and trust, then packed his bags and headed back home. He walked away from permanent residency and his management position just to continue finding a way to Germany.

For the next few years, the sight of him wandering aimlessly around the village house became the talk of the neighborhood. People called him unrealistic, saying he “didn’t know how to enjoy a good thing.” Surrounded by mounting pressure, he kept his head down, silently and steadfastly focused on one single target: Germany, and only Germany.

Time passed, and one day, my phone buzzed. An image of a Schengen VISA appeared, accompanied by a brief message: “I’m getting ready to go, brother…” Without a second thought, I wired him a small sum of money as a token of encouragement and replied: “Start your new journey, it’s going to be great either way!” The moments you are watching in this video are the images he sent back to me from far-away Germany. It is not just the fruit of perseverance, but a powerful testament to a profound message: A life worth living is one we dare to design with our own hands, where we dare to give up the “good” to chase the “great” that belongs to our true passion. He proved that when a passion is truly grand, it gives a person the courage to say no to the easiest paths.
